Bandipur
Wildlife Sacntuary
Section of the lushly green Deccan Plateau, Bandipur, in Karnataka, offers
a rich and diverse wildlife habitat. It is a part of a larger national park,
which also includes the neighbouring wildlife sanctuaries, of Mudumalaiin
Tamil Nadu and Wynad in Karnataka. This sanctuary is one of the 15
sanctuaries selected across India for Project Tiger, a scheme launched in
1973, by the World Wildlife Fund for Nature, to save the tiger and its
habitat. Bandipur, lying in the shadow of the Western Ghats, is one of the
finest habitats of the Asian elephant.
Nagarahole
Wildlife Sanctuary
Nagarahole is situated in the picturesque districts of Kodagu and Mysore in
southern Karnataka. The forest is home to animals like the four-horned
antelope, sloth bear, jungle cat, civet, spotted deer, elephant, wild dog,
flying fox, tiger, panther, gaur (Indian bison), sambhar, wild boar,
black-naped hare, bonnet macaque, and pangolin amidst lush green vegetation,
swamps and numerous water resources.
Bannerghatta Wildlife Sanctuary
Bannerghatta National Park lying 22 km from Bangalore is teeming with
exotic species of wildlife, the park boasts of an astonishing variety of
trees like sandal, jalari, chujjullu, neem, tamarind, zizyphus amongst
others. The 104 sq km park includes ten reserve forests of Anekal Range of
the Bangalore Forest Division. It is surrounded by scenic hills, with many
ancient temples perched on them. A trip to Bannerghata National Park
promises to be a memorable experience, for nature, history, botany and
wildlife buffs.
Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary
The Sanctuary is a paradise for wildlife enthusiasts. Just see around and
